So, what is a typical day at Putnoe Woods...?
We provide the children with the freedom to play freely within a structure of daily routine.
As we all know with under 5's there is no 'typical day', however, it is important that the children feel a sense of security by knowing what is coming next in their day whether that be snack-time, lunchtime, song-time, story-time etc.

The early year’s foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.
All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes as this will support healthy development.

EYFS A Parents Guide
Here at Putnoe Woods we have an ethos of learning through play which we believe is the most appropriate and effective way for children of this age to learn. They are young and curious about life so we let them explore and engage in the resources around them. As a preschool we take guidance from the children and include their interests in our planning. So, if a child shows a strong interest in animals we will plan some activities around this topic. We encourage our children to engage in stories and books and use descriptive language when talking about things that interest them. This will be of enormous benefit when children begin to learn to read at school.

We strongly believe in the benefits of LEARNING THROUGH PLAY.

NATURE & INTEREST TABLES
The outdoor world comes indoors; leaves, bark, seeds (plastic bugs!) and magnifying glasses – wow! Learn about types of leaf, textures, colours, how many legs different insect have?

MOVEMENT TO MUSIC AND SIMPLE GAMES
Broadening children’s knowledge of different types of music and rhythm, increasing their confidence to feel the music and move their bodies to the beat.  Lots of excitement (and development of listening skills) with musical statues, chairs, ‘what animal’ and other games.

MUSIC, SONGS, RHYMES, INSTRUMENTS
Soothing, exciting, strange, telling a story, sparking the imagination. Singing songs and rhymes, tapping out beats, playing simple instruments and experimenting with sound. Learning to listen and simple enjoying music. What fun!

BOOKS
We have interesting, imaginative and educational books on our bookshelf.  Your child can pick them up, learn how to handle them properly, listen to them being read, learn to tell the story through pictures, fantasy and fact, and develop an enjoyment for the written word.  They may even start to try and read on their own.

GARDENING
A chance to learn where some food comes from and how to grow your own vegetables, flowers and other useful plants.  Children love the real magic of seeing seeds sprout and grow into towering sunflowers or juicy tomatoes.  They especially enjoy messing around with compost and water!

OUTDOOR FUN
Many parents comment on how delighted they are at seeing our all weather outdoor space we have at Putnoe Woods.
Children love the feeling of simply running, climbing, jumping, throwing, balancing and even catching.

We let the children run off steam with us (while being carefully and unobtrusively supervised).

They will strengthen muscles develop their mental alertness and their general health.
